Awarded Students

2004 HODIC Suzuki-Okada Memorial Prize Encouragement Prize in Technology

Recipient:
Aya Komatsu (Completed the Master's Program of Electronics and Information Science, Graduate School of Science and Technology (Kubota Laboratory) in March 2005, currently employed at OMRON Corporation)

Awarding Date:
May 27, 2005

Institution:
Holographic Display Artists and Engineers Club

Reason for Award:
Combining holography technology with a femtosecond laser makes it possible to visualize the light propagation at 300,000 km/s just as rippling across the water surface. For its ability to observe ultrafast phenomena, this technology is expected to be applied to various areas including the observation and the clarification of unknown ultrafast phenomena in the fields of physics, chemistry and biology, as well as ultrafast measurement and assessment in various engineering fields.
Ms. Komatsu, in her master's thesis themed on "Observation of light propagation by holography using an ultrashort-pulsed laser," conducted an in-depth research on light pulse image observation and reconstructed image characteristics. She theoretically analyzed the difference between the light propagation that is actually occurring and the observed image, and confirmed it by experiment. Her research content and attitude during the presentation at the conference were highly evaluated, which has resulted in her winning of the award.
